From Jann Smith…
Run Through Trails hosted this race which was a grand tour of the Lake District Fells starting in Keswick, running over to Wasdale and back with four big climbs and descents .
We woke to snow and torrential rain and the course was shortened with Scafell Pike being avoided due to adverse weather conditions of minus 10 degrees on the top. So 53km became 48km and 8,000 feet of climb reduced to 7,200 feet .
The race played host to the home countries trail running international, the British 50KM Trail Championships and was a selection race for the European Trail champs.
So there was a stacked elite field at the front with Ilkley’s Ben Rothery winning overall in an eyewatering time of 3hr56mins. I staggered in much later in 7hr15mins, 21st lady securing 1st place in the British Champs for my age category of F55 and F50.
