Chester HM / England Athletics Age Group Masters HM Championship – Sun 21 May

From Sally Armitage…

This race was possibly one of my most enjoyable to date. My first time wearing the England vest & everything went to plan. No niggles & no primary school viruses, a win in itself! The course was slightly undulating, most noticeable in the first mile and also the last mile, which was uphill.

I set off at my usual pace, managed to avoid the temptation to speed up when people passed me, and felt strong throughout. It was amazing to run with such a huge field of fast veteran athletes, in fact, in the ladies race there were only 2 non-veteran runners in the top 20 finishers. An F35 won the race.

I spent most of the race running alongside two F45s, one who finished a couple of seconds before me and the other a few seconds behind. Sadly it was not Hilda’s day, she withdrew at 2 miles due to injury. Jane finished but also struggled with injury.
