Dales Runner 20 – Sat 12 Aug

From Dave Robson…

Originally planned as my ‘different’ race for March but postponed due to snow, the shortest of this year’s Dales Runner series took place instead on a warm and windy day in August. My mate Dave, and I were joined at the last minute by the in-form Gav Lamb, on a roll, and seemingly not slowed down by an impressive Borrowdale pb the week before!

The DR20 route meanders through the unusually named ‘Arkengarthdale’ with some great technical downhill sections, and a few steep, but mostly runnable climbs.

I kept Gav in sight for the initial climb and ridge run across Fremlington Edge, but after that the race thinned out and apart from making up a couple of places on the downhills I pretty much ran on my own.

This wasn’t an issue as the course was fully flagged and well marshalled and we all made it back to the village scout hut (and an excellent free cake spread) without any problems.

A great race and the Dales Runner website is definitely worth a look.
