From Dave Foyston…
The second Leeds 5k and Club Championship organised by Evensplits. The race, which included many running clubs from around Yorkshire, was well attended, the location was the Brownlee Cycle Track, the runners completed just over three laps of the smooth tarmacked track.
Weather conditions were perfect, no wind, cool and dry.
Eleven Harriers entered, the race is separated into two races – anyone who predicts they can run under 20 minutes is entered in the 8pm race.
Three Harriers were in the 19:15 race with Ruth Kitchen the first Harrier home finishing in 19:59, qualifying for the sub 20 heat next time!
Next Harrier home was Robert Budding shortly followed in by Nicola Budding.
Then came the 8pm race, eight Harriers were entered in this one.
First Harrier to finish and win the race was Nathan Edmondson in a fantastic time of 15:09 well done Nathan!
The next Harrier home went down to the wire with Archie Budding and Matt Cox having a sprint to the finish line with Archie finishing a second ahead, but Matt did win the MV45 Cat in an amazing time of 16:46, young Jake Norris was next back in a time of 17:18 I think this may have been a PB for him.
I followed shortly behind in 17:36, claiming 2nd in the M45 Cat.
Mike AC and Kyle Bethell finished with times of 17:48 and 18:08 well done guys.
First female home returning to the track after injury was Helen Thurston winning the FV40 category in a time of 19:23.
In relation to the club table the Harriers are in fifth place out of 36 clubs, which is calculated by how many club members have entered and also placings of the runners. This is a vast improvement from the last race where we were in 14th!
Thanks to all who entered. The next race is on the evening of Wednesday 27th April – mark it in your calendar , for further details see Leeds 5K Series EvenSplits. Would be great to get more Harriers entered, remember this race is for all abilities
