From Sally Armitage…
I entered this race mostly because it’s cheap, I have quite a few races in the calendar right now and the piggybank is not happy. I’d also seen its elevation profile (just over 300 metres climb) and decided it looked like cracking training for the flat halves I have coming up.
Kate Corcoran (2nd lady) was my clear rival from the start. We stood side by side on the start line & I knew then that she would be the one to beat. She gave me a good run for my money in the first half of the race, she took the lead on the first hill and I decided not to chase, I was surprised to catch back up with her a kilometre or so later and I then held the lead for the rest of the race.
It was definitely a hilly race but wasn’t quite as tough as I’d imagined, despite unknowingly losing a gel midway round, and choking on an electrolyte tablet in the latter stages. Do not use those dissolve in the mouth tablets if your breathing is at maximum capacity!
I was really pleased to take the win, it’s my first half marathon win so it was extra special.
